Mérindol

This charming abandoned village is famous for the sad history of the Waldensians, victims of terrible persecution by barons loyal to the popes of Avignon.

Many villages were razed to the ground and more than 2000 people were exterminated: the men were slaughtered and the women burnt alive in barns.
