Avignon is a magnificent medieval city, where you can still breathe in all the atmosphere of history and art.
It is a very lively city, rich in tourism and absolutely safe and quiet, ideal for travelling couples and families.
Here you will find hotels of all levels and features located both in the heart of the old town and outside the walls and across the Rhone River.
If you want to be within walking distance of all the sights and places to visit, then we recommend accommodation in the old town, inside the walls. This way you will have everything at your fingertips and will not have to travel far to discover the city. Obviously, this also entails higher prices, difficulty in finding parking (we recommend a hotel with parking facilities) and getting around by car and, finally, more tourists.
A very pleasant alternative for accommodation in Avignon is to. choose an establishment in Villeneuve-lès-Avignon, a small satellite town of Avignon, located on the other side of the Rhone. It’s a true oasis of peace and tranquillity (you won’t have to dribble through hordes of Japanese tourists flocking to the Palais des Papes) with a pleasant, relaxed atmosphere. It is certainly an unconventional solution that will nevertheless give you the chance to discover an authentic corner of Provence just a stone’s throw from its sister city Avignon.
In this case, however, you will have to use public transport or a car to reach Avignon.
The same goes for another village on the other side of the Rhône, Les Angles: a delightful old village surrounded by orchards and full of flowers and fountains. Here, too, it is recommended for those seeking peace and quiet combined with the chance to mix with the local population.
