Galeries Lafayette

The Galeries Lafayette department stores' is a must-see in Paris, a nearly 70,000 square metre, 7-storey Art Nouveau shop.

In 1893, Théophile Bader and Alphonse Kahn opened a small haberdashery of only 70 square metres on the corner of rue La Fayette and Chaussée d’Antin. This modest shop was so successful that the two entrepreneurs decided to buy the entire building in 1896.

On the façade, different architectural styles demonstrate the shop’s successive expansions: Haussmann, Art Nouveau, Art Deco and the 1960s pharmacy spirit, with a neo-Byzantine dome in the centre.

Today, the Galeries Lafayette is not only an emblematic monument of Paris, but a shop of almost 70,000 square metres, welcoming more than 100,000 visitors a day.

Surrounded by the elegant and refined Opera district, characterised by the best fashion ateliers and luxury brands, the department store is a must-visit place in the French capital.

Visit the Galeries Lafayette

A visit to Paris cannot be complete without passing by the historic flagship Galeries Lafayette Haussmann, which unfolds majestically over three buildings. The main shop, whose decoration fits perfectly with Parisian Art Nouveau, is worth a diversion in itself. Look up and admire the extraordinary stained glass dome, culminating at a height of 43 metres, an icon of Galeries Lafayette.

The stained-glass windows, in neo-Byzantine style, project a myriad of multicoloured lights. The banister of the monumental three-flight staircase, inspired by the Paris Opera, is signed Louis Majorelle.

The best of fashion, luxury and well-being

For 120 years, Galeries Lafayette has been promoting the best in creation and consumption accessible to all, from inexpensive products to luxury garments. Fashion and beauty come together, the most prestigious names as well as the most reserved, the most avant-garde and the most popular, the most established as well as newcomers.

More than 3,500 brands await you, from the cheapest to the most prestigious, ranging from fashion to accessories and beauty, from decoration to gastronomy.

The department store experience also extends to the Gourmet space, for the pleasure of the eyes and the palate, where you will be offered the best of French and world gastronomy.

Galeries Lafayette Paris Haussmann offers an exclusive experience, thanks to the launch of new activities, in a unique location in the heart of Paris.

The Glasswalk

A few years ago, the Galeries Lafayette installed a 9-metre-long glasswalk, suspended 16 metres above the void of the department store’s central area.

Accessible from the 3rd floor of the main shop, this glass bridge will offer you incredible perspectives on the dome and will allow you the best candid shots.

Get ready for an unprecedented moment, admiring more than 120 years of French history, elegance and art de vivre.

The Panoramic Roof

On the 7th floor of the main shop, you will have access to a large roof terrace, which offers a breathtaking panoramic view of the whole of Paris.

From there you can see all the major monuments of the city: the Opéra Garnier of course, but also the Eiffel Tower, the Tour Montparnasse, the Pantheon.

Christmas tree and illuminations

The temple of Parisian shopping is cloaked in magic with its fabulous decorations that cover the entire façade of the building: in addition, its shop windows are a true hymn to Christmas and each year follow a particular theme.

Also not to be missed is the huge Christmas tree placed in the centre of the building, which is different every year.

The Galeries Lafayette sections

Perhaps not everyone knows that the legendary department store on Boulevard Haussmann is located in 3 different buildings side by side: in addition to the historic Galeries Lafayette Haussmann, you will also find Galeries Lafayette Homme, dedicated to men’s fashion and accessories, and Galeries Lafayette La Maison & Gourmet, focusing on home and gastronomy.

Galeries Lafayette Haussmann

The historical warehouse building is the only one with the marvellous dome, a true legendary icon in perfect Belle Epoque style: an architectural masterpiece covering 7 floors and 45,000 m2.

It is the temple of fashion and luxury, oriented towards women and children: every detail is designed to flaunt elegance and refinement. It is no coincidence that even the balustrades on each floor are decorated with art nouveau style leaves, signed Louis Majorelle.

Galeries Lafayette Homme

Next to the main store, connected by a glass elevated gallery, is another large shopping centre, this time dedicated entirely to the universe of men.

13,000 m2 divided over 4 floors with 500 brands present: Galeries Lafayette reinvents the men’s fashion trend with a resolutely contemporary vision, drawing inspiration from emerging talents as well as from the biggest fashion houses, revisiting the classics or borrowing some references from the world of streetwear.

La Maison & Gourmet

Opposite the department stores is the third part of Galeries Lafayette, a world entirely dedicated to home and gastronomy.

This unique place, a temple of good food, brings together the best of the current culinary and gourmet scene. A market square, a delicatessen, a wine cellar, gourmet shops and restaurants make up an exceptional 3500 m2 food court overlooked by 5 floors and 7500 m2 of collections focused on the home and cuisine.

Don’t miss the opportunity to taste oysters, truffles and French specialities such as chocolates and macaroons right at the counter.

Wellness Galerie, the new space dedicated entirely to relaxation and well-being

Nestling in the heart of the main shop on the basement floor, this 3,000 square metre space inspired by the rounded, enveloping design of the 1970s invites you to unplug and carve out a moment of well-being.

The Wellness Gallery offers a decidedly unique experience, bringing together under one roof a selection of the best experts in wellness, beauty, care, energy and sport. It invites and accompanies visitors to take care of themselves, thanks to personalised services articulated around 3 universes

Visitors can take advantage of the courses and treatments on offer with or without a reservation.
