A cruise on the Seine in Paris offers a magical experience that perfectly blends the elegance of the Ville Lumière with the tranquil majesty of its iconic river. Cruising along the banks of the Seine allows you to discover the architectural treasures of Paris from a new perspective, as the famous monuments are revealed in all their splendour, flowing magically before your eyes.
The best vantage point for fully enjoying the capital and its grandest monuments is outside on the boat’s upper deck, a great place to take photos and admire the enchanting panorama.
The Bateaux-Mouches is the brainchild of Jean Brunel: to create an itinerant tour of Paris, seen from its most beautiful avenue, the Seine.
After buying one of the last steamboats used for the 1900 World’s Fair, Brunel created, in 1949, this innovative experience to be made on the Seine: a non-stop cruise, departing and arriving from the same dock, with a view of the most famous monuments in Paris.
Today, the term Bateaux Mouches has become synonymous with a boat on the Seine, although there are now several operators offering this service. However, they all follow the same route, with minimal variations.
At 776 kilometres long, the Seine is a true natural monument that runs through the heart of Paris. An integral part of the capital’s landscape, it flows at the foot of the most beautiful historical and cultural buildings.
A cruise along this romantic river will allow you to admire from the water the Alexandre III bridge, the National Assembly, the unmissable Eiffel Tower, Notre Dame Cathedral, the Grand Palais and the famous Pont des Arts.
The Bateaux-Mouches landing stage is located near the Pont de l’Alma: from here you can sail up the Seine towards Notre Dame de Paris, passing the Louvre, the Hôtel de Ville and the Conciergerie. The turnaround is made near the Institut du Monde Arabe.
Crossing the small arm of the Seine that wedges between the Île de la Cité and the Rive Gauche, you can admire Notre Dame Cathedral from very close up. The cruise then continues past the Musée d’Orsay and the Assemblée Nationale towards the Eiffel Tower.
Please note that the basic route is at the captain’s discretion, depending on the height of the Seine.
Each year, the company welcomes more than 2,500,000 passengers who board its large fleet of 15 boats that travel a distance equal to five times the circumference of the Earth in 12 months.
Since its foundation in 1949, more than 150,000,000 passengers have embarked.
Undoubtedly, the most popular and most followed by tourists is the classic 1 hour 10 minute cruise that follows the course of the Seine, passing the most important monuments in Paris.
Indeed, the Bateaux Mouches boats sail past the Eiffel Tower and the Louvre and you can admire, from the comfort of your seat, Notre Dame de Paris, La Conciergerie and the Musée d’Orsay.
The navigation is accompanied by commentary in French and English (at certain times also in Italian) and route maps are distributed in 25 languages.
For a relaxing break from a long day of sightseeing, lunch on board a cruise on the Seine is a great way to rest while admiring the view from the river.
On Saturdays, Sundays and holidays, a real lunch is offered with a choice of appetisers, first and second courses. Departure is at 12.30 p.m. with return to the pier at 2.15 p.m., for a cruise duration of 1 hour and 45 minutes.
Or again on Sundays, you can choose to have brunch served in the Mademoiselle Mouche restaurant on the main deck of the Bateaux Mouches.
On all other days, a lunchbox version is available, with a choice of four types of sandwiches.
If you want to admire all the charms of Paris in the evening, when the city lights up and shimmers in the night, reflecting in the waters of the Seine, we recommend a dinner cruise.
On the boat, a romantic dinner is served with a choice of menus (Prestige and Excellence), enlivened by musical accompaniment.
In this case, embarkation is at 8 p.m., departure at 8.30 p.m. and return to the pier at 10.45 p.m. with a total duration of about 2 hours and 15 minutes. Formal attire is required: sportswear, flip-flops, Bermuda shorts and caps are not permitted.
The boarding point for the Bateaux Mouches boats in Paris is located at Port de la Conférence, between Pont de l’Alma and Pont des Invalides, in the 8th arrondissement.
If you need to reach the embarkation point by public transport, we recommend that you use the metro, line 9, and get off at the Alma Marceau stop, where you will find signs for the Bateaux Mouches .
In high season, from April to September, boats sail every 30 minutes between 10 am and 10.30 pm with additional departures on Fridays and Saturdays at 11 pm.
In the low season, from October to March, cruises depart every 45 minutes between 10 a.m. and 10 p.m.
