Erbalunga

Situated in the municipality of Brando, Erbalunga is an ancient Corsican village, located in the department of Upper Corsica, on the Cap Corse peninsula, famous for its natural beauty. Considered to be one of the most beautiful villages on the island, Erbalunga has crossed the centuries unscathed by wars, keeping all its charm intact.

An unmissable stop during a visit to the Cap Corse, it enchants tourists with its delightful little harbour and its unmissable monument, the 16th century Genoese tower. The village of Erbalunga has a picturesque charm, thanks to its cultural and historical heritage and a natural environment suitable for walks.

Nicknamed the painters’ nest, the village of Erbalunga is loved by many artists: the island’s painters have been coming to this picturesque village to immortalise it since the 1960s.

Erbalunga shows all its beauty especially in the summer, when it comes alive to the rhythm of folk festivals and dance evenings. In August each year, the Festival de Musique d’Erbalunga takes place.

Things to do in Erbalunga

Erbalunga’s history dates back to prehistoric times and originally the village was just a port of call like all the maritime towns on the Cap Corse.

Maritime trade allowed the village to expand, also ensuring the prosperity of the people of Brando for centuries, who owned a large fleet of some twenty boats, sometimes 15 metres long, capable of sailing to Sardinia, Rome, Livorno and Genoa.

Erbalunga Tower

Renowned for its picturesque townscape and old-world charm, Erbalunga’s most iconic site is its 16th century Genoese tower.

One cannot visit Erbalunga without visiting this tower. It was erected to protect the village and to defend the arrival of maritime trade boats, stopping enemy attacks. However, the tower has gone through many periods of destruction and reconstruction caused by wars.

Port of Erbalunga

Also not to be missed is a walk to its marina, small in size but full of charm and authenticity.

From here, you will have a privileged view of the Tyrrhenian Sea, with its small boats and houses of picturesque and ancient architecture. The port of Erbalunga is a perfect place for a short stroll along the quays, watching the colourful fishing boats dock in the morning with their nets full of fish.

There is also a beautiful beach in the village of Erbalunga, a vast expanse of pebbles with clear turquoise water that is suitable for swimming, perfect for relaxing and admiring the sea.

Beware: the waves and currents are rather rough and strong when the wind blows.
