Jugon-les-Lacs

Surrounded by a beautiful 4-km-long lake, Jugon-les-Lacs is an oasis in the middle of a sea of greenery.

Things to do in Jugon-les-Lacs

• Hôtel Sevoy: the town’s most famous house in the Louis XIII style. Compared in beauty and fortifications to a castle, it has a particularly original architecture, an octagonal staircase with oculi and decorated pediments.
• Eglise Notre-Dame et Saint-Etienne
• La Maison de la tête noire: this very old house has a very unusual architecture: if you look closer, you will notice that the lintels do not match. Legend has it that this building was connected to the Château de Jugon by a tunnel, and during restoration work, the body of a woman preserved in salt was found at the bottom of the well of the house.
• La Maison de l’Escu: this 17th century villa, now a traditional restaurant, is one of the most picturesque in Jugon. Its name comes from a family from Escu, in the bishopric of Dol. Its emblazoned medieval-style fireplace was recovered from Jugon Castle after its destruction in 1616.
• Traditional wash houses: in rue du Four, rue de la Triballe you can admire some original wash houses dating back to the end of the 19th century. The river flowing along the lower part of the gardens of the houses facing Place du Martray allowed residents to have a wash-house and covered toilets, but the development of the town in the 19th century and the lack of hygiene made it necessary to build facilities.

The surroundings of Jugon-les-Lacs boast 300 hectares of lakes and rivers that are ideal for a rejuvenating break in the midst of nature. Here you can indulge in sport fishing or water sports such as catamarans, rowing boats, canoes or follow the 200 km of mountain bike or walking trails to discover the local heritage for an outdoor holiday.

Not to be missed is Château de la Hunaudaye: let yourself be seduced by the castle’s five towers, its majestic ruins, moat and drawbridge. Recently restored, the visit includes the ancient patrol walkways to better understand the defensive system.

Another noteworthy stop is Ferme d’Antan: nestled in Saint Esprit des Bois, near Plédéliac, it is an old farm that houses an eco-museum that aims to revive the early 20th century. In order to immerse you in the atmosphere of the 1920s, the guides will welcome you in period costume and invite you to participate in the life of a 20th century farming family, including daily chores, animal care, working the land and crafts, in skilfully reconstructed settings such as the cellar where the cider is made, the forge, the barn, the stables and the pigsties that housed the animals.
